Happy New Year for all of you!! Hopefully you had a good ending of 2007 and good start of this new year...
At the time writing, we have been in Africa exactly one year. So far, so very, very good and we have enjoyed every moment and country of it! The time that we left Holland seems so far away; on the other hand, time flies when you're having a good time!
At the moment, we're in Bukoba (Tanzania) on the foot of mighty Mount Kilimanjaro. We'll tell you shortly how we ended up here....
We left Uganda for Tanzania on Friday 28th of December. Everything went all right (no hassle on the border) and we arrived in Bukoba around dinertime. From Bukoba, we wanted to take the Ferry to Mwanza, on the other side of Lake Victoria. When we came in the chaotic and unorganised harbour, it turned out that the boat was fully booked. And, the next one was leaving on monday night! Because we didn't want to spent 3 days in dull Bukoba, we tried our best to escape from there. We managed to go on board through another harbour and 12 hours later we arrived on the other site of lake Victoria. From Mwanza, we wanted to take the bushtrain all the way to Dodoma (capital), but this train turned out to be fully booked till 20 January 2008! Welcome to the wonderfull world of public transport in Tanzania... ;)
So, we dicided to change our plans drastically, and 3 hours later we were in our Landcruiser crossing the Seringeti National Park together with two Korean guys. And it was amazing: we saw many things this year in Africa, but this was definitely one of the biggest highlights. In two days time, we saw about 30 lions, a cheetah, and numerous elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, wildebeasts, zebras, antilopes and birds. We think the fotos will tell the whole story. And on top of this all, we even saw a hunting lionness in Ngorogoro Crater. This was truly amazing: it was like watching a documentary on television!!
From the Ngorogoro Crater we travelled to Moshi, on foot of Mt Kilimanjaro. we spent our New Year's Eve over here and are relaxing now for a couple of days. After this, we're heading South East, direction Tanzanian coast.
We keep you guys updated...
With love,
Anne and Rob
